Alexandra Pirici

Alexandra Pirici (*1982 in Bucharest, lives and works in Bucharest and Berlin) transforms performance art, contemporary dance and the concept of the participatory sculpture into meticulously and complexly conceived works that combine all three fields into one. In the process, contemporary discourses on technological development and historiography are addressed in a playful way and hierarchies are questioned. The work Recall (2017) presents a guideline for a performative action to be performed by the collector: a subjective selection of impressions from our natural as well as cultural environment, representing part of the common world heritage, is to be enacted together with another person. The artist, who ranks among the internationally best known representatives of performance art, assists in the dramaturgical development. When encountering Pirici’s work it is difficult to draw boundaries, space must be shared and defined together.

Most recently, her works have been shown at, among others, Skulptur Projekte Münster (2017); Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (2017); Berlin Biennale (2016); Tate Modern, London, and Tate Liverpool (2016); Off-Biennale Budapest (2015); Manifesta, St. Petersburg (2014); Centre Pompidou, Paris (2014); Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven (2014); Museum of Modern Art, Warsaw (2014); Fridericianum, Kassel (2014); Venice Biennale (2013).
