Lia Perjovschi

Lia Perjovschi’s work spans performances, actions, installations, drawings, and text-based works, in which the artist addresses questions about the collection, archival, and distribution of knowledge from society, art, and politics. In the mid-1980s, together with Dan Perjovschi, she founded the Contemporary Art Archive / Centre for Art Analysis (CAA / CAA), a continuously evolving project that Perjovschi describes as a “context in motion,” an independent art institution, and a dynamic information center. In 1999, she founded the interdisciplinary Knowledge Museum (KM), which still exists today. The collage series 2020 Timeline is a snapshot of our times, a study of the present since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. The timeline consists of a string of key terms and images on current topics, including global crisis, isolation, normality, routine, system relevance, digitalization, proximity, as well as distance. Perjovschi’s 2020 Timeline also records current events such as the Black Lives Matter movement and encourages us to rethink existing social structures and search for new, sustainable ways of living for people and nature.

Recent exhibitions of Lia Perjovschi’s work includes at: Muzeum Susch, Switzerland (2020); Kunsthaus Hamburg (2016); Museum der Moderne Salzburg (2016); Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León (2015); Nasher Museum of Art, Durham / USA (2014); São Paulo Art Biennial (2014); Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (2011), Sydney Biennale (2008); Tate Modern, London (2007).
