Sunah Choi
In her photographs, drawings, installations, videos, and performances, Sunah Choi explores places, times, and events that inspire her abstract approach, while critically examining traditional viewpoints. Through her Maquette series, the artist investigates architectural models as objects that offer insights into diverse spatial perspectives. Choi’s works navigate the boundary between architectural inquiry and reflections on abstract monochrome painting, carving out a distinctive artistic domain. In The Poetics of Space (1957), French philosopher Gaston Bachelard describes how corners in a room mark the tension between the inside and the outside. With their tilting outer walls, Choi’s wall objects highlight and subvert this dialectic through their flexible and interactive nature.
Sunah Choi’s (*1968 in Busan, lives and works in Berlin) works have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including at Museum Schloss Moyland (2024); RL16, Berlin (2022); Kunstverein Reutlingen (2021); Kunsthall 3,14, Bergen / Norway (2020); Busan Biennale (2018); and Museum Nikolaikirche, Berlin, where she received the Hannah Höch Förderpreis in 2018.
