Rosa Barba

Outwardly from Earth's Center

In her conceptual practice artist Rosa Barba reflects on the discourses of film and video technology inherent in the media and questions the stagings of industrial cinema, its gestures and messages, which she extracts from their original context with the aim of rearranging them. Outwardly from Earth’s Center is a story about a fictional landmass in the sea, the inhabited Swedish island of Sandön, threatened by disappearance. The island’s rescue requires the mobilization of all the inhabitants in order to ensure their survival. The fictional expert interviews enhance the surreal, threatening atmosphere and turn the experience of what at first appears to be a beautiful documentary film into an absurd picture of fragility and struggle.
