Barbara Heinisch (*1944 in Rathenow / Germany, lives in Bad Nauheim / Germany) studied with Joseph Beuys (*1921 in Krefeld / Germany, †1986 in Düsseldorf / Germany) at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and K. H. Hödicke (*1938 in Nürnberg / Deutschland, lebt in Berlin) at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin, among others. During this time, Heinisch developed a practice that combines painting and performance in a specific way that she describes as process painting. Often working in collaboration with other artists, performers, and musicians, her transdisciplinary painting events take the form of live performances that are frequently documented on video.
