Eduard Constantin
In drawings and photographs, Eduard Constantin (*1977 in Ploies/Romania, lives in Bucharest) deals with the visualization of what is omnipresent but not evident. With sensitivity for the historicity of contemporary conditions, he devotes himself to both quiet and loud moments marking thresholds of history. In The First (since 2015), he takes a sketch-like, representational approach to such moments, and also to people and objects that have heralded fundamental social change – such as Sputnik 1, which in 1957 became the first satellite launched into space; and the day on which the six-year-old, Ruby Bridges, became the first African-American child to attend a once all-White elementary school in the United States. Other drawings depict Valentina Tereškova, the first woman in space, and Marie Paradis, the first woman to climb Mont Blanc, in 1808.
Recent exhibitions of Constantin’s work include at: Motorenhalle, Dresden (2018); Black and White Biennale, Satu Mare/Romania (2017); Galerie IG Bildende Kunst, Vienna (2013); Janco Dada Museum, Ein Hod/Israel (2011); Arttransponder, Berlin (2009); Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (2008); Rathaus Galerie, Munich (2008); Bucharest Biennale (2006); Württembergischer Kunstverein Stuttgart (2005).
