Lawrence Weiner (*1942 in New York, living and working in New York) is a famous representative of conceptual art that in the 1960s followed minimal art. Language is an important material for his work, determining his sculptures, drawings, installations, films and videos. Even today, his Declaration of Intent (1968) is still valid, stating: “The artist may construct the piece”, “The piece may be fabricated” and “The piece need not be built”. Weiner was a four-time documenta participant (1972, 1977, 1982, 2012) and is represented in major international collections, such as the British Museum London, Museum moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Vienna and K21, Dusseldorf.

His works have been shown in exhibitions, including Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire (2015); MACBA, Barcelona (2013); The Jewish Museum, New York (2012); Blain|Southern Gallery, Berlin (2012); Centre Pompidou, Paris (2011); Kunstmuseum Winterthur (2010); Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin (2009); K21, Dusseldorf (2008).

For Neuer Berliner Kunstverein he created a series of four copies titled Red sails can still be seen in the morning light. This watercolor ink jet print with staples ranges at the interface between drawing and printing and constitutes something very special.
